Chemistry Learning Outcomes

Mission Statement

We welcome students into a collaborative and inclusive community of chemical scientists who revel in “aha!” moments. We foster an environment where we learn from one another by engaging in active, innovative, and adaptive teaching, research, and mentoring and by interrogating scientific processes to reveal the connections among many areas of inquiry. We strive to be thoughtful and conscientious citizens who, as scientists, contribute to their local and global communities.

Learning Outcomes

By the time students complete the chemistry program they are able to:

  1. Explain atomic/molecular interactions and reactions using relevant models and theories about the nature of matter.

  1. Design and execute studies to explore scientific questions.

  1. Conduct experiments safely and ethically.

  1. Answer conceptual and quantitative chemistry questions through data analysis and interpret results in the context of theory.

  1. Locate, critically read, and evaluate scientific work.

  1. Effectively and ethically communicate scientific results and ideas.

  1. Foster constructive team climates by contributing meaningfully and effectively to team work.

Values/Vision
