We hope that your spring break provided respite and discovery – and that your return to campus has been uplifted by glad reunions and the energizing realization of the last seven weeks of the 2024-25 academic year.

Staff council recognized the following staff members as the Spring 2025 Staff Council Grand Grinnellian Award winners. Each of the winners has demonstrated their commitment and dedication to the college by being an excellent performer in their duties while representing the core values of the institution and the mission of Grinnell College. 

Eli Conrod-Wovcha ’26 was excited to study abroad in Senegal in the fall of 2024, but he never expected to become a celebrity there.

Lex Baumann ’22 was focused on urban colleges until she visited Grinnell and fell in love. Since arriving, she has job-shadowed a lawyer in Miami, served as a community advisor (CA), changed her major, and much more. Next up: law school applications.

After graduation, economics and Chinese major Jivyaa Vaidya accepted a job with Morningstar Inc., a global financial services company headquartered in Chicago.

Garcia, from St. Paul, MN, is among 37 students selected nationwide from 155 finalists from 41 partner schools to receive the $40,000 fellowship stipend. The program offers “college graduates of unusual promise a year of purposeful, independent exploration and international travel to enhance their capacity for resourcefulness, imagination, openness, and leadership and to foster their humane and effective participation in the world community.”

The band Butcher Brown will perform a concert in Herrick Chapel on the Grinnell College campus at 7:30 p.m. on March 27.

A piece written by Blanche Johnson Professor of Music John Rommereim titled “Time and Wind” was included on the ASCAP New Music Friday playlist, which Spotify calls “the latest, greatest music from ASCAP songwriters and composers.”
