A piece written by Blanche Johnson Professor of Music John Rommereim titled “Time and Wind” was included on the ASCAP New Music Friday playlist, which Spotify calls “the latest, greatest music from ASCAP songwriters and composers.”

The piece, performed by soprano Charlotte Mundy and the Sirius String Quartet, is a selection from Rommereim’s recent album, Into the Still Hollow.

Interested listeners can visit Spotify to hear the track.

According to the album liner notes, Into the Still Hollow defies any desire to categorize Rommereim as a composer and director of vocal music only. “It would be easy to pigeonhole the man, were it not for the existence of his instrumental works. Into the Still Hollow juxtaposes both talents and offers a glimpse at Rommereim’s multifarious accomplishments.”

The liner notes continue, “The variety is astounding. There are intimate lieder, accompanied by piano or an evocative string quartet; a three-part suite for solo guitar; and unconventional duos, one for organ and saxophone, the other for organ and oboe. Stylistically, the pieces walk the fine line between Western tradition and its ritual annihilation. Cerebral, yes, but also impassioned.”
