The Lalonde Fellowship in Classical Studies honors Gerald V. Lalonde, Benedict Professor Emeritus of Classics.
Professor Lalonde came to Grinnell in 1969, and for decades taught courses in Greek and Roman history, archaeology and art, and languages and literatures. He continues to teach on occasion for the department and the College. Professor Lalonde has published extensively on the topography and epigraphy of ancient Athens.
The fellowship may be used to defray the costs of intensive study of Greek or Latin, or of participation in an approved academic program in the area of classical studies in the summer (for examples, see our Opportunities page).
