If I will be a second-year student next year, how likely is it that I can get a single room?
Single rooms are available during room selection for rising fourth- and third-year students. This means first and second year students must plan to have at least one roommate.
Each year, a number of students have difficulty finding a roommate for the following year. Students needing a roommate may be assigned a room with a transfer student, a student returning from leave, or another student needing a roommate. It is possible that students will be relocated within the building they selected during room selection if they don’t have a roommate when room selection closes.
Grinnell College students are not eligible to request off-campus permission unless they are a third or fourth-year student.
There are a limited number of students who may live off-campus each year. The number of students who may live off-campus is determined during spring semester for the following academic year. Please reference the off-campus page for more information.
After the Project House Presentations, the committee from Residence Life votes to determine which groups will be awarded a project house, based on their presentation.
In January, Residence Life reaches out to all students when the housing application is open. Students must complete the housing application by March 15th to have a priority application. A priority application allows students to have a time slot and participate in room selection.
Yes, we do! We have gender-specific housing and bathrooms available to students. Students can preference these options when they apply for housing in the housing portal.
