Matthew Kriegel
Assistant Director of Campus Safety
Matthew "Matt" Kriegel has always called Grinnell home. He grew up in rural Grinnell, and graduated from Grinnell High School in 2012. Matt attended Indian Hills Community College and graduated from Buena Vista University with a B.A. in Criminal Justice. He began working for Grinnell College in 2016. Matt spends most of his free time enjoying the outdoors while hunting and fishing.
Matt’s favorite part about Grinnell College is working with a diverse population of students from all over the world, while still having that “small town” feel and sense of community.
Matt's primary responsibilities include working in conjunction with multiple departments and outside agencies such as local law enforcement to gather and properly retain crime and disciplinary referral data for the Grinnell College campus in order to maintain compliance with the Clery Act. In addition, Matt prepares and publishes the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report as required by the Department of Education and also manages the training of Campus Security Authorities at Grinnell.
The department of Campus Safety, 641-269-4600, plans and implements safety operations, programs, and initiatives in support of the College’s mission and vision. Located on the corner of East Street and 10th Avenue, Campus Safety is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, even when school is not in session.
