Sophie Brunau-Zaragoza
Sophie Brunau-Zaragoza is a specialist of contemporary French literatures and cultures (France/Antilles), specifically in the field of environmental humanities. She is completing her Ph.D. in French and Francophone Studies from Brown University. She has an M.A. in French Studies from Michigan State University and a B.A. in English Studies and Performing Arts from the Université François Rabelais in Tours, France. Her research brings together literature and environmental activism through questions of relation, matter, community, and the human. Her work on decomposition and vegetal creepings in the novels of contemporary writers Marie Darrieussecq and Antoine Volodine has appeared in L’Esprit Créateur and Contemporary French and Francophone Studies:SITES. Professor Brunau-Zaragoza has previously taught intro to advanced courses in French language, literatures, and cultures, including on topics such as ecocriticism, speculative fiction, and refugee studies, at Brown University, Bennington College, Bucknell University, and Michigan State University.
