Sondi Burnell
Coordinator, Assistive Technology
Sondi Burnell has worked for Grinnell College since 1998. During Burnell’s term, she has worked for the Office of the Registrar, Office of Admission, Academic Support, and currently as Coordinator of Assistive Technology under Academic Affairs and Dean of the College. In 2013, she was promoted from Academic Technical Support to Assistive Technology Support Specialist providing support for integrating technology into teaching and learning; serving as a resource in using assistive technologies for disability accommodations, and promoting a broad understanding of the role of accessible technology in education. In 2020 Burnell was again promoted to her current position as Coordinator of Assistive Technology, coordinating a team of three Assistive Technology Support Specialists. Training and experiences in these departments have given her the knowledge to understand the processes and goals of the different segments of the College and how we all strive for the common mission of the College. Burnell has served on multiple ad-hoc committees: Ombuds, Staff Council, Information Technology Assessment, Campus Climate Assessment, Community Space, Accessibility, ARH-Carnegie Building Committee, Academic Resource, and various Emergency committees. Burnell believes open communication and the move toward a collaborative working environment is one of the key successes of any entity.
Her passion outside of Grinnell College consists of Fourth Ward Councilwomen for the City of Grinnell. (2011-2019), Chair of the City of Grinnell's Board of Adjustments (2019-Present) and spending time with family and her three grandchildren.
