Chinyere Ukabiala

Chinyere Ukabiala was appointed Grinnell College's first Ombudsperson in February 2013. Chinyere earned her JD at Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa. She is a trained mediator, a member of the International Ombudsman Association, and a Certified Organizational Ombudsman Practitioner (CO-OP).

Chinyere has an extensive background in civil law practice and mediation in Nigeria, the UK, and in Iowa. Before coming to Grinnell to establish the Office of the Ombuds, Chinyere practiced law in Des Moines and taught negotiations at Drake University Law School.

She is a member of the Iowa State Bar Association, Bar of England and Wales, American Bar Association’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Section, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
