Alex is joining Grinnell as a student clinician in his third year as a counseling psychology doctoral student at the University of Iowa. His professional journey began in 2017 when he graduated with his B.A. in psychology from the University of North Dakota and worked as a school-based interventionist in southwestern Iowa. Alex furthered his education by earning an M.A. in counseling psychology from the University of North Dakota in 2022. He is now pursuing a career in sport and performance psychology.
Alex primarily uses Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) principles to inform his work. This work focuses on mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. He seeks to create a supportive space for his clients to explore their concerns and assist them in developing skills to manage those concerns. Alex enjoys exercising, cooking, and spending time with his wife and two dogs in his free time.
