Emily Creery
Exploratory Adviser
Emily (she/her) is passionate about empowering students to build a life that allows them to celebrate their authentic and unique selves, ambitions, and interests. By encouraging students to dig deeper through self-reflection, Emily supports Grinnellians as they challenge systemic, societal, and internal structures on their way to being the favorite version of themselves professionally and personally. It is a great privilege to find contentment in the work we do, which is why Emily thoroughly enjoys navigating big ideas (and existential crises) as students engage with the inevitable question: “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
On her journey to where she is today, Emily received her B.A. from the University of Iowa in Journalism and Mass Communication with a certificate in Human Rights. She also went on to earn her M.Ed. in Student Affairs alongside a certificate in Education for Social Justice. In addition to her studies and work, Emily tends to take advantage of small talk to initiate what Oprah calls “Super Soul Conversations,” has a bleeding heart for animals of all kinds, considers herself to be a film buff, reads books in search of understanding herself and the human condition, and sometimes makes up songs to (horribly) serenade her cat.
