Abdul Muhaymin Priester III
Imam
Abdul Muhaymin serves as the Imam at Grinnell. His experience spans several fields, including Islamic Studies, practical theology, leadership, and human and community development. He holds a Master's degree in Islamic Studies from The Islamic Seminary of America, focusing on religious leadership. He is pursuing a Doctor of Ministry (DMin) in Practical Theology with a concentration in Leadership and Ethics from the Catholic Theological Union.
His academic work is complemented by extensive experience in educational and community program development, curriculum development, non-profit management, reentry programs, community engagement, policy analysis, development and advocacy. He also has a background in Psychology. His research interests include traditional Islamic sciences, leadership, ethics, and the experiences of African American converts to Islam.
Abdul Muhaymin also serves as a Senior Academy Instructor at the Tayba Foundation, where he has been working since September 2016.
Abdul Muhaymin lives in Des Moines but is from Savannah, Georgia. He is also a resident of Kumasi, Ghana, where his family lives.
