Beth Perlman
Director of Counseling Services
Beth (she/her) holds administrative responsibilities in managing SHAW’s clinical operations. Additionally, she provides clinical support to students. Beth received her MA in Community Counseling from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Georgia. She completed her APA-accredited internship at the University of Washington and Post-Doctoral Internship at The Claremont Colleges.
Beth’s style of therapy is empowerment-focused and collaborative, taking into consideration the unique individual, sociocultural, and familial contexts of each person. Her goal is to provide an affirming environment where students can explore areas of concern with both self-compassion and curiosity. While Beth considers herself a generalist, she has professional interests in grief/loss, self-compassion, suicide prevention, trauma, intersectionality, and relational concerns.
Beth feels grateful to be in this space and to be part of the Grinnell College community. In her free time, Beth finds it restorative to spend time in nature, curl up with a good book, play with her dog and cat, as well as to share laughs with friends and family.
