Staff Counselor II
Derrick (he/they) strives to create an environment that invites all parts of a person into the therapy space. He recognizes how intersecting identities can shape and inform experiences, as such, utilizes different interventions based on the individuals needs.
His main clinical areas of focus include working with Black & Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC), lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual plus (LGBTQIA+) community, disability & disability justice, and transracial and national adoption. More broadly, they have experience working with college aged students experiencing depressive and/or anxiety symptoms, interpersonal concerns, adjustment, and identity exploration.
Derrick finished his doctorate in clinical psychology from California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) at Alliant International University in San Francisco in 2023. He completed his APA-accredited internship at University of Nebraska – Lincoln Counseling & Psychological Services (UNL CAPS). Outside the office, Derrick likes to cook and bake, attend concerts, garden, crafty/DIY projects, spend time with loved ones and of course, his dog, Meiko & cat Tess.
