As a student, Melissa Koch ’90 learned from alumni who came before her. Now, as an alum, she is returning the favor by working with current students.

A group of Grinnell alumni has created a fund to support a Mentored Advanced Project to study the history of concerts at Grinnell and Georgia Dentel, who made them possible.

Four Grinnell students are working with Professor Sarah Purcell ’92 to research the history of concerts at Grinnell. Their Mentored Advanced Project includes a focus on legendary Grinnell staff member Georgia Dentel.

Academic opportunities, career mentoring, and financial support from Grinnell helped Ellen Hengesbach ’24 turn an internship into a meaningful career.

Sarah Labowitz ’04 visited Grinnell to show her first feature-length documentary, Texas, USA (2023), and participate in a Q&A session with current students.

On Sept. 28, Grinnell College dedicated Renfrow Hall in honor of 1937 Grinnell graduate Edith Renfrow Smith, honoring her inspiring life of achievement, service, and generosity.

As a Grinnell College student, Frederick Morgan Taylor 1926 sang first tenor with Glee Club; stared in a play, “The Goal;” studied English and business administration, and was known for dancing the best Charleston on campus. He also was the fastest hurdler in the world.

Grinnell alum Sarah Jolie ’87 has always hung her Black Lives Matter and Pride flag on her front porch – and continued to do so despite the persistence of a chronic vandal.

Renovations are underway to the Hannah Alumni House, 1527 Broad St., thanks to a $1 million gift made by Mary Emily Hannah ’58, DL ’82.
