Grinnell Faculty/Staff Research Series Event, 4 p.m., Tuesday, April 18, 2023, in Burling First Floor Lounge

President Anne F. Harris has been appointed to the NCAA Division III Presidents and Chancellors Advisory Group, where she will represent the Midwest Conference. Her term of service on the committee began immediately and will continue through January 2025. 

Grinnell College will honor Edith Renfrow Smith, Class of 1937, one of the College’s most accomplished and beloved alumni, by naming the Civic Engagement Quad (CEQ) Core Building in her honor.  

Grinnell College President Anne F. Harris will serve on the Capital Crossroads Advisory Council leading the development of the 2040 regional vision plan. The Advisory Council represents a diverse array of organizations to ensure people of different backgrounds and interests have an opportunity to inform the future direction of Central Iowa.

Staff council recognized the following staff members as the fall 2022 Staff Council Grand Grinnellian Award winners. Each of the winners has demonstrated their commitment and dedication to the college by being an excellent performer in their duties while representing the core values of the institution, our THRIVE principles, and the mission of Grinnell College.

Harris - I write today to share the sad news of the passing on Saturday of one of our College’s most remarkable members: President Emeritus and Professor Emeritus George Drake ’56. Trustees, faculty, staff, alumni, students and community members were invited to celebrate the new and renovated spaces, which support teaching, learning, and collaboration. The event included tours of the building, a formal dedication, and an all-campus luncheon on Kington Plaza.

Seven works have been selected for 2022-23. In-person attendance is limited to 12 individuals per session; advance registration is required and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The book will be provided to participants who do not own a copy. All discussions for registered participants will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Nollen 1 conference room. 

Grinnell College will welcome one of its most diverse, highly-qualified classes in history. This fall, the incoming first-year class of 441 new students will join an already outstanding student body attracted by the College’s outstanding academic reputation, individually advised curriculum, and opportunities to gain knowledge and experience both in and outside of the classroom.
