Todd Armstrong, professor and chair of Russian, Central European, and Eurasian Studies, answers five questions about foraging, chickens, food, and culture.

This award is given to an individual who has served the study abroad field through significant professional and volunteer work. The awardee is chosen by IES Abroad’s Nominations Committee, composed of study abroad professionals from top-tier colleges and universities across the United States. Recipients are exceptional leaders in the study abroad field whose careers have been distinguished by outstanding achievements and contributions.

With her Mentored Advanced Project adviser, Professor of Russian Todd Armstrong, Nora Leahy is exploring how Grinnellians can use the Global Kitchen for coursework and other community-building activities, not only on campus, but also throughout the town of Grinnell.

Varela, a class of 2021 graduate from Las Vegas, Nevada, is a French major with education licensure. She has native proficiency in Spanish along with her academic study in both French and Spanish. She plans to study for a Master of Arts in bilingual-bicultural education.

Gilman Scholarship makes study abroad even more affordable for a first-generation student.

The independent scholar, educator, and decolonial feminist activist will present at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18 in Rosenfield Center, Room 101.

Camille Hall ’19 has been selected to receive the 2019 Global Scholars Fellowship. The fellow is granted up to $30,000 for one year of study or research in at least three sites internationally.

Stefanie Ochoa ’20 will study in Shanghai, China, and Max Hill ’20 will explore how cities work on four continents, thanks to the Gilman Scholarships they received to study abroad.
