Writers@Grinnell: Dean Bakopoulos
8 p.m. Sept. 3, 2015
Dean Bakopoulos, the English department's writer-in-residence, will discuss his bestselling novel, "Summerlong" at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, Joe Rosenfield '25 Center, Room 101. The event, which is free and open to the public, launches the fall Writers@Grinnell series.
Bakopoulos, also a National Endowment for the Arts and Guggenheim Fellow, has titled his talk "Writing Grinnell: Confessions, Obsessions, and Apologies." In addition to discussing "Summerlong," his third novel, Bakopoulos will address the role of creative writing at a liberal arts college.
Writers @Grinnell, the English department’s reading series, brings to campus writers of all kinds: poets, novelists, memoirists, essayists, radio essayists, columnists, graphic memoirists, playwrights, and short story writers. Recent visitors include African-American and Latino writers, international writers, LGBT writers, blind and deaf writers, bi-polar writers, and writers with mobility impairments. An anonymous donor enables the series to host an annual distinguished author reading and an interdisciplinary creative writing event.
Grinnell welcomes and encourages the participation of people with disabilities. Accommodation requests may be made to Conference Operations, 641-269-3236.
