For the 14th consecutive year, the Pioneer Bookshop will donate 10% of its December sales to support the middle and high school libraries in the Grinnell-Newburg Community School District.

Chelsey Kolpin, Grinnell High School media specialist, shared, "I am so thankful for our partnership with Grinnell College and their generous support of giving 10% of their bookstore sales in December as a partner in education. With prices increasing and budgets shrinking, this donation allows us to add so many more books to our collection and continue to meet students' book requests through the end of the school year. It is a big difference-maker!"

College students and community members eager to contribute can find a range of gift options at the Pioneer Bookshop to meet their holiday shopping needs. Shoppers can choose from a diverse selection of books, games, toys, stationery, and more. Additionally, the bookstore offers special-order services with quick turnaround times for hard-to-find titles.

Cassie Wherry, manager of the Pioneer Bookshop, shared, “At the Pioneer Bookshop, we enjoy watching young people discover the pleasure of reading books. Having a library filled with all kinds of books helps them find all the things they like.  I’ll never forget the feeling I got when I browsed my library’s shelves and realized I could learn about things I had never imagined before.  That’s why we want to support our school libraries with this donation that gives the librarian the ability to purchase books she knows students want to read.   We hope that makes them lifetime readers.”

This annual donation is just one example of how the Grinnell community supports its students. Through the Grinnell Education Partnership, Grinnell College and local businesses consistently organize events and programs that enhance educational resources in the region.

The Pioneer Bookshop is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
