The Alliance for the Advancement of Liberal Arts Colleges (AALAC) has awarded Assistant Professor of Economics Meredith Paker a $20,000 workshop grant. Funds from the grant will allow Meredith and her collaborators, Amanda Gregg (Middlebury College), Steven Nafziger (Williams College), and Jenny Bourne (Carleton College), to host a workshop for faculty members at liberal arts colleges entitled "Using Digital Tools to Understand the Past: New Methods in Economic History" in spring 2025.

The workshop will showcase research in economic history that draws upon state-of-the-art analytical methods, share best practices for incorporating digital tools into interdisciplinary research and teaching, and foster collaborative relationships, networking, and mentoring among liberal arts faculty members working in economics and related fields.

"New methods and data are transforming economic history” says Paker. “We are excited to bring leading scholars pioneering these approaches to Grinnell."

The AALAC strives to advance liberal arts education through collective efforts to support faculty research and teaching so as to enhance the overall experience of students and to develop faculty leadership.
