“Mardi Gras in Grinnell” Jazz Ensemble Concert Feb. 25 at Grinnell College
This concert is in support of the Davis Elementary School Food Drive for Mid-Iowa Community Action (MICA).
The Grinnell College Department of Music will showcase the “Mardi Gras in Grinnell” Jazz Ensemble concert on Saturday, February 25, at 7:30 p.m.
The ensemble will perform brass band music from New Orleans, including music by the Rebirth Brass Band, Professor Longhair, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and others. The evening will include a tribute to the late Bennie Pete, the co-founder and tuba player of the Hot 8 Brass Band. Pete visited Grinnell and performed in February 2016 but passed away in the fall of 2021.
This concert is in support of the Grinnell-Newburg Davis Elementary School Food Drive for MICA. Davis students will be on hand to accept donations of shelf-stable foods and hygiene items. These students are working on a class project that examines local challenges related to food insecurity. Visit the Hunger Problem Project website, created by the third and fourth grade students, for more details about this important project.

Minors under the age of 18 need to be accompanied by an adult. The college also welcomes the presence of minors at all age-appropriate public events and for informal visits, with the understanding that a parent, legal guardian, or other responsible adult assumes full responsibility for their child's safety and behavior during such visits or events. In these cases, the college expects that an adult responsible for the visiting child takes measures to ensure the child's safety and sees that the child complies with directions of college personnel. Grinnell College is not responsible for supervision of minors on campus.
