JC Lopez Named Interim Vice President for the Division of Student Affairs

JC Lopez has been named the interim vice president for the Division of Student Affairs at Grinnell College, beginning August 14, 2023. Lopez joins Grinnell as an esteemed and trusted partner with a demonstrated dedication to student success. 

Grinnell College President Anne F. Harris, shared, “JC’s expertise, dedication, and passion for student success will contribute meaningfully to our mission of fostering an exceptional student experience. I look forward to the productive partnerships JC will engage in his role as interim vice president for the Division of Student Affairs. In those partnerships, we will continue to foster a vibrant and inclusive campus environment that supports the growth and success of our students.” 

Lopez brings extensive experience in higher education administration to our campus. At DePauw University, he has held positions ranging from director of campus living and community development to dean of student success, working collaboratively with multiple student affairs professionals. Throughout his tenure, he has demonstrated a commitment to creating inclusive environments within multiple departments, enhancing the first-year experience, and developing strong collaborations with campus and off-campus offices and organizations. Lopez’s ability to connect with students, faculty, staff, and alumni has been instrumental in fostering a sense of belonging and in supporting the holistic development of students.  

Lopez’s educational background includes a Master of Arts in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Applied Media Arts, Graphic Design, from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.

He adds, “I am eager to work alongside the exceptional faculty, staff, and student leaders at Grinnell, and together, we will create an enriching and transformative college experience for all. I am excited to forge ahead, hand in hand, to make Grinnell an even more extraordinary institution for students.”

This appointment comes as the College embarks on a national search for a vice president of student affairs in the coming fall. Lopez’s interim role will allow the College to maintain stability and continuity while working together throughout the year to discern the next leader of the Division of Student Affairs.
