The second annual Japanese speech contest took place at Grinnell College on Dec. 1, 2016. This contest provides enthusiastic Japanese learners with a stage to share their talent and passion for Japanese speaking.

This year, six contestants who showed exceptional speech skills were selected from three different levels of Japanese. The contestants were judged by native Japanese speakers who are current students and faculty at Grinnell.

The first prize was given to Yo Park ’18 who will be fully funded by the department if he is further selected as a finalist for the speech contest held by the Consulate-General of Japan in Chicago. All contestants received recognition for their excellent effort and engaging speeches.
