Fred Hersch Trio
Vanity Fair proclaimed him “the most arrestingly innovative pianist in jazz over the last decade,” and the London Jazz Review says he is “simply one of the most resourceful, sensitive and versatile jazz pianists on the planet."
On Oct. 1–2, jazz pianist and six-time Grammy nominee Fred Hersch '77 returns to campus.
While here, Hersch will give an artist’s lecture and perform with the Fred Hersch Trio, which The Wall Street Journal describes as “one of the major ensembles of our times.”

About Fred Hersch
Hersch began playing the piano at age four and composing at eight.
He has earned several awards, including a Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship for composition and a Rockefeller Fellowship, numerous grants and composition residencies, and many commissions. He’s has been a featured guest on CBS Sunday Morning and a variety of National Public Radio programs, including Fresh Air, Jazz Set, Morning Edition, Studio 360 and Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz.
Hersch is also a passionate spokesman and fund-raiser for AIDS services and education agencies and a keynote speaker and performer at international medical conferences in the U.S. and Europe. He is a committed educator, having taught at The Juilliard School, The New School and The Manhattan School of Music, and conducted a Professional Training Workshop for Young Musicians at The Weill Institute at Carnegie Hall. He is currently a member of the Jazz Studies faculty of The New England Conservatory and of Rutgers University.
