David Roll on Harry Hopkins and the Alliance to Defeat Hitler

Oct 24, 2013

Talk: 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29 Rosenfield Center Room 101

Harry Hopkins 1912 became one of the architects of the New Deal and chief aide to President Franklin D. Roosevelt during the Great Depression and World War II. He was considered the most powerful man in President Roosevelt’s administration, and spoke with an authority second only to the president’s.

Author and attorney David Roll will talk about The Hopkins Touch, his Pulitzer-nominated biography of Hopkins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, in Rosenfield Center Room 101. The talk and subsequent book signing are free and open to the public.

Published earlier this year, The Hopkins Touch focuses on the alliance that Hopkins forged with Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin in order to defeat the Nazis during World War II.

Roll’s book is the first biography of Hopkins to be published in more than 20 years and makes use of previously private diaries and letters.

The Washington Times called The Hopkins Touch “a truly magisterial biography,” and the book was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in history.

Roll's lecture is sponsored by the Rosenfield Program in Public Affairs, International Relations, and Human Rights.
