CBS Benefit Basketball Game

I discovered this photo in the Concerned Black Students archives, and wanted to post it for a couple of reasons. This was taken during a CBS versus faculty basketball game, held as a benefit for the recently established King Scholarship, and the uniforms these guys are suited up in are wonderful. They wouldn't be out of place at some of the wilder Harris parties. Additionally, I was surprised at the caption that accompanied the photo. Originally published in the September 1969 issue of the Grinnell Magazine, the line below it reads "Semi-isolated in a white world, Grinnell's black students still find much to do."

If you have recollections of the game, thoughts on race relations at Grinnell from that time, or tips on how to incorporate more zebra print into Grinnell's current athletic aesthetic, we'd love to hear from you!
