Burling Listening Room/Microform Room Renovation Update

Burling Library is nearing the conclusion of the major renovation of its Listening Room and Microforms Room.

The expansion of the Listening Room’s public area allows library patrons to have direct access to most of the collections of over 20,000 DVD, VHS, Blu-ray and compact discs, not only during the Listening Room office hours, but whenever Burling Library is open.

Work on the Listening Room and neighboring Microforms area began in May, 2011, and engaged personnel from the Grinnell College Libraries and Facilities Management departments, as well as contractors who were involved at various stages of the project.

All but minor details in the renovation were completed by the end of July, and the Listening Room officially returned to normal operations on August 1st. Visitors are welcome to view the results and to take advantage of the new services available.

A blog about the renovation can be accessed at http://listenroomren.wordpress.com/.

The renovation is an opening step in a longer-range plan to consolidate media-related functions across the Grinnell College campus.
