Anton Jones ’02 will discuss his experiences working in professional theatre. He will address questions including:

  • What has led to whole communities being alienated from the theatre?
  • How does one change the institution of theatre?
  • What role does theatre for social change play in the changing of that institution?
  • What is the role of mainstream pop culture in traditional theatre?

Jones currently is the artistic director and CEO for CLIMB Theatre in Minnesota. He has directed, written and provided hip-hop theatre workshops for CLIMB actors since 2007. He has worked as a director, playwright, and theatre educator for Penumbra Theatre, Pillsbury House Theatre, The Illusion Theatre, History Theatre, Karamu Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre, Upstream Arts, Children’s Theatre Company, The Guthrie, St. Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists, and Imagination Stage in Bethesda, MD. He is a two-time Jerome Many Voices Fellowship Recipient. As a sound designer/composer, his work has been heard internationally, off-Broadway, and most recently on CLIMBs podcasts of Faraway Woods. Jones received his bachelor's in theatre from Grinnell College and his master's of fine arts from the University of Iowa Playwright’s Workshop.
