The College is excited to announce a significant improvement in the comfort and livability of our residence halls. This summer, the Facilities Management team will be installing air conditioning units in the north and south residence halls, just in time for the start of the new academic year!

What's Happening?

  1. Electrical Upgrades: Additional electrical distribution will be installed in the currently non-air-conditioned north and south residence hall buildings. Each bedroom will have a dedicated power outlet near the window to power the new air conditioning units.
  2. Portable Air Conditioning Units: Each bedroom will receive a portable air-conditioning unit. These units are compact, efficient, and designed to provide optimal cooling (see image below).
  3. Installation Schedule:
    • By mid-August, Facilities Management (FM) trades will install these units in each bedroom. The installation includes routing a heat discharge hose to the bedroom window to ensure proper ventilation.
    • During Fall break, FM will uninstall the units and store them safely. Except for the units in rooms where students have a documented accommodation.
    • The process will be repeated during Spring break to ensure students are comfortable throughout the warmer months.

Rick Whitney, Assistant Vice President for Facilities Management, shared his excitement about the project: "We are committed to enhancing the living experience for our students. By adding air conditioning to the north and south residence halls, we aim to provide a more comfortable and conducive environment for studying and relaxation. This project reflects our dedication to continuously improving campus facilities."

Dennis Perkins, Assistant Dean of Residence Life and Student Conduct, also expressed his enthusiasm: "We understand how important a comfortable living space is for academic success and overall well-being. Installing air conditioning units in these residence halls is a direct response to student feedback, and we're proud to see it come to fruition."

This exciting upgrade is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance student life and ensure that our campus remains a welcoming and enjoyable place to live and learn.
