2017 Japanese Language Speech Contest

On Saturday, March 25, the 31st Annual Japanese Language Speech Contest was held by the Consulate General of Japan in Chicago.

Four students  were selected from Grinnell College to present their Japanese speeches at the contest in competition with students from large universities including University of Wisconsin and University of Minnesota.

  • Yo Park ’18, currently taking a second-year Japanese class, won the first prize in the college student category and received gifts from Sumitomo and Panasonic.
  • Hannah Hwang ’18 received the Japan America Society of Chicago Award.
  • Ningyi Lyu ’19 received the Chicago Shimpo Award.
  • Logan Stuart ’19 received the Japan Airlines Award.
