Grinnell College Receives a Tara VanDerveer Fund for the Advancement of Women in Coaching Grant from the Women’s Sports Foundation

Grinnell College is one of 10 universities and colleges to receive the grants, which are designated for women coaching fellows in a wide variety of women’s sports. Grants were awarded to institutions to support collegiate women coaches on the rise, assisting with living expenses, professional development and mentorship.

Grinnell College Associate Professor Eric Ohrn and Colleagues Win International Tax Policy Forum Grant

The research project examines the impact of changes in the United States’ international tax system on the employment and earnings of U.S.-based workers. The goal of the project is to better understand how policymakers can design international tax systems to help domestic workers.

Joe Tuggle Lacina Named Iowa Artist Fellow

Grinnell College studio art technical assistant, has been named an Iowa Artist Fellow for fiscal year 2023. Tuggle Lacina is one of five fellows selected. This annual competitive fellowship supports Iowa artists, filmmakers, musicians, and creative writers who demonstrate exceptional creativity and a commitment to advancing their artistic practices at a pivotal moment in their careers.

Fredo Rivera Wins WaveMaker Grant for Performance Art Project

The project draws upon a wide range of sources, including historical archives, cartography, the built environment, soundscapes, and contemporary visual cultures of the “postcolonial colony.” WaveMaker grants are part of a regional regranting program supported by the Warhol Foundation.

Professor Mark Levandoski Awarded Major National Science Foundation Research Grant

Professor of Chemistry Mark Levandoski has been awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) Re-Entry to Active Research program grant of $123,674 (CHE-2204419) to help him reengage in his academic research after a four-year period serving as one of the College’s associate deans and interim registrar. NSF funding will help him to expand his skillset and apply new techniques to understanding the mechanism of the receptors by learning a computational research approach called molecular dynamics.

Fernanda Eliott Named Scialog Fellow

Fernanda Eliott, Grinnell College assistant professor of computer science, has been named a Scialog Fellow by the Research Corporation for Science Advancement. Eliott was selected for the “Molecular Basis of Cognition” group, which will bring together scientists from a wide range of fields to better understand the processes that underlie short- and long-term memory, thought, perception, and cognition.
