I knew I wanted a small school that would nurture my individual strengths. Grinnell caught my eye at first because it was a small school with an individually advised curriculum!
When I visited Grinnell in person, I really knew this was the place for me. Yes, Grinnell offers personalized attention with small classes, but there were no other schools that would give the same kind of community and opportunities.
So I committed to Grinnell through Early Decision!
As a new first-year in college, I never imagined that I would become such close friends with my roommate and floor-mates. Being a little braver than I thought I should be really got me far in finding the community and friendships that I wanted coming in!
My friends and I lived together in Colorado during the pandemic after we had to leave campus!
Clubs and Extracurriculars
Hands down, theater and music are some of the most fulfilling things I've done here. I've participated in Swing Society, Contra Dance, and Grinnell Singers during my time here, and many of my best friends are from those groups.
We've performed together on tour across the Midwest in Grinnell Singers, and it has been a great way to get closer to the singers and strengthen my performances!
I love the sense of community that we've all built together in these clubs. Art, music, and community always go hand in hand, and I love working with other people.
The summer after my third year, I decided to do an agricultural internship. I've often worked with my mom in a garden of our own, and I wanted to put myself out of my comfort zone and work outdoors, so this was the perfect fit.
And the result? I got to learn a lot about Grinnell’s local food scene, met amazingly friendly farmers during my time there, and gained a big sense of appreciation for agriculture and the agriculture industry that I didn't have before! Coming from a city, I didn't really know much about the agricultural industry, but this internship really helped me find what I'm interested in: working in nature.
