Where activism and education merge.

Violence, injustice, and intractable conflict are among the most pressing problems we face today. At Grinnell, you’ll join a community committed to addressing these issues and taking action to solve them. You’ll work with fellow students and faculty members to better understand the issues underlying conflict and to creatively manage and transform conflict. As part of your studies, you’ll explore the historical roots of social justice and interact with scholars and peacebuilders working in the field to build peaceful practices and institutions in societies across the globe.

    Global Impact

    Study conflict — and develop solutions — with peacebuilders around the world.

    You’ll explore the historical roots of social justice and interact with scholars and peacebuilders working in the field to build peaceful practices and institutions in societies around the globe.

    In doing so, you’ll develop the academic knowledge and skills to identify underlying causes of conflict, address conflict productively, and work constructively in post-conflict environments.

    Interdisciplinary Study

    Learn from multiple perspectives.

    You’ll find Peace and Conflict Studies Concentration to be an interdisciplinary field with historical roots stretching through a rich range of social and intellectual contexts. You’ll explore issues from a wide range of viewpoints, including concerns about the Cold War nuclear arms race and the heritage of the civil rights and antiwar movements. You’ll reflect on real-world strategies for building peaceful communities and establishing institutions in societies worldwide that can address the legacies of war and violence.

The American Philosophical Society has awarded Sharon Quinsaat a $6,000 grant for her project, “Understanding Support for U.S. Conservative and Right-Wing Politics among Filipino Immigrants.”

Grace Duffy ’22 Receives Stouffer Fellowship for Graduate Studies

The fellowship is open to senior women who are fluent in French, Spanish, or Portuguese with plans for a career and graduate study in a public service field in Latin America and Latin American communities.
